Three dealerships make big changes

A few dealerships have been in the news lately as they make waves in their operations. Richmond Harley-Davidson in Glen Allen, Va., is moving; Doug’s Harley-Davidson in Florence, S.C., is changing hands, and Mid-America Powersports in Wichita, Kan., is looking for a buyer.

Richmond Harley-Davidson is relocating to a new 52,000-square-foot building in Northlake Park, Virginia Business reported. The company, which also owns Steel Horse Harley-Davidson in Midlothian, Va., is investing $6.5 million into its new store. The move is expected to create an additional 10 jobs.

Meanwhile, Doug’s Harley-Davidson in Florence, S.C., will become Black Jack Harley-Davidson on Friday, as owners Doug Guynn and Sandy Broach have sold the dealership. The couple had owned the store, which closed July 20, since 1978, reported WBTW TV.

Mid-America Powersports was slated to close earlier this month, but since owner Ross Reed announced the closure, four parties interested in buying the business have come forward, according to The Wichita Eagle. The multi-line dealership opened in 1988, and it includes four buildings totalling 40,000 square feet. Reed said he and his wife grew tired of struggling for sales over the past four years.
