Explosion at BRP’s R&D facility in Valcourt claims life

It is with a heavy heart that BRP confirms that one of its employees, Sébastien Tardif, a 38-year-old father of two, has died from the injuries he sustained during the explosion that occurred at its R&D facility in Valcourt on Friday, Nov. 9.

“Our thoughts are with the family and friends at this difficult time,” said Vincent Morin, vice-president, Product Development, Can-Am.

The second person injured in the incident, a security guard, is still in intensive care at the burn unit of the Enfant-Jésus de Québec hospital.

The BRP employee was a dynamometer operator. He was working the night shift at the R&D Centre when the explosion occurred. The investigation is still underway with the proper authorities to determine the causes of the incident. The R&D Centre remains closed while this investigation progresses, however, manufacturing operations were not affected.

BRP has put in place measures to support its employees while continuing to support the families through these difficult times.
