Michigan House passes appeal of helmet law

Michigan’s House of Representatives has approved legislation that would repeal the state’s current law, which requires helmets for all motorcyclists.

The new bill, which passed 69-39, would allow riders 21 and older to ride without a helmet if they have amassed two years of riding experience or have taken a safety course and purchased a $20,000 medical insurance policy, according to the Detroit Free Press. The measure now advances to the Senate, which approved an earlier version of the bill in June.
