Fellow dealer members of the DAC elect the president. The focus of the DAC is for dealers to work together to create unparalleled experiences for Harley-Davidson riders across the U.S. and to increase profitability among member dealerships. In this position, Smith represents the approximately 675 Harley-Davidson dealers across the nation.

“Harley-Davidson highly values its relationship with its dealers, who we believe are among the best retailers in the powersports industry. Our U.S. Dealer Advisory Council is a valuable and long-standing forum where we have constructive dialogue on topics of mutual interest. We’re honored to have dealers on our council who volunteer their time, provide their business expertise and are committed to working together to find ways to build improved profitability and unmistakable Harley-Davidson experiences for our riders across the U.S.,” said Dave Cotteleer, Harley-Davidson Motor Company’s vice president and managing director — U.S.

Smith has been in the Harley-Davidson business for more than 25 years. He was born and raised in the DFW area and joined the Harley motorcycle business in 1991. In 1996, Smith opened his first Harley-Davidson dealership in Grand Prairie, Texas, making him the youngest person to own and operate a Harley-Davidson dealership at the age of 22. He is one of very few Harley-Davidson dealership group owners in the country.

“Harley-Davidson and the powersports industry are going through a challenging time,” said Smith. “The Dealer Advisory Council and I will work extremely hard on behalf of Harley dealers to improve working relationships with Harley-Davidson Motor Company.”

Calculated Risk has six Harley-Davidson locations in Texas. Its flagship destination location, Texas Harley-Davidson in Bedford, is 72,000 square feet and has two showrooms situated on six acres. All of the Calculated Risk dealerships are branded as “destinations” and offer a full calendar of events including Bike Nights, organized group rides and riding academies. The dealerships have been members of the Power 50 since the Powersports Business dealer awards program launched in 2013.

Calculated Risk has also launched Lucky Penny Cycles, the first of several shops specializing in pre-owned motorcycles.
