Dealer closes two stores after 48 years

Hitching Post in Minnesota opened in 1969

Minnesota-based Hitching Post Motorsports, with locations in South St. Paul and Hopkins in the Twin Cities metro area, is no longer in business as of October, according to a post on the company’s website.

Hitching Post was a franchised dealer that carried Honda, Yamaha, Polaris, Suzuki and Kawasaki products. Its website claimed it carried the largest selection of new and used motorcycles in Minnesota.

Hitching Post’s roots date back to 1969, when late owner Rick Rosoff opened a store in St. Paul.

According to PSB data, five dealership storefronts across the U.S. have shuttered in 2017: two in Connecticut, one in Vermont and now two in Minnesota.

Minnesota now has 200 dealership storefronts that sell new and/or pre-owned powersports units.

Dan Turco & Sons, a single-line Yamaha dealership in North Clarendon, Vermont, announced earlier this month that it is no longer in business.

Owners Diana Garrow and Bruce Turco are off to retirement.

The dealership was located in North Clarendon, Vermont, near Rutland.

Vermont now has 28 dealership storefronts that sell new and/or pre-owned powersports units.

  1. The South St. Paul store was still McNamara Cycle Sales in 1969. It was owned and operated by my father, Richard McNamara into the early 70s. My father was very proud that someone paid to have “McNamara Cycle Sales” along with “See South St. Paul Hitching Post” printed in the telephone directory up until the 90s. His customers loved him and he assumed enough customers must have still asked about McNamara Cycle Sales to cause someone to print that after all those years. I miss you Dad.
