Dealerships offer range of events, promotions in August

Here’s a look at some of the mid-season promotions and events being offered by members of the inaugural Powersports Business Power 15 group of dealers. The Power 50, being launched in 2013, will be announced Oct. 17 at a dinner as part of the International American Motorcycle Expo (AIMExpo) in Orlando. Dealerships that have been selected to the Power 50 will be notified in the coming weeks.

RIVA Motorsports & Marine (Pompano Beach, Fla.) is partnering with the Mike Miller Foundation on a one-of-a-kind event that tops those among the Power 15 this month. Customers can win Mike Miller’s Can-Am Spyder custom edition, signed by all members of the 2011-12 world champion Miami Heat. Upgrades include custom paint, wheels, Yoshimura exhaust and more. Raffle tickets cost $10.

Leo’s South (Lakeville, Minn.) offered customer savings during its 36th Anniversary Sale Aug. 23-24. Cake, coffee and soda were provided all weekend, and 36 winners were selected to win a $36 gift card from the dealership. The store stocked up on inventory, with more than 250 bikes and scooters available. Special factory incentives and “Move ’Em Out” deals were geared to more than 150 new 2013 and non-current vehicles, along with more than 100 used bikes. Leo’s also offered a $36 gift card to the store with every new and pre-owned unit sold during the celebration. The number 36 got more visibility with a promotion that allowed customers to buy one item (no vehicles) at regular price, and get a second item of equal or lesser value for 36 percent off. Ten lenders and 20 credit unions helped facilitate plenty of sales.

Mosites Motorsports (North Huntingdon, Pa.) offered new buyers of select 2013 Triumph motorcycles a $1,000 credit at shop.triumphmotorcycles.com.

Biker Bob’s Motown Harley-Davidson (Taylor, Mich.) unveiled the H-D 2014 lineup at a special VIP preview on Aug. 23. The dealership sold tickets to the exclusive event, with seating in the showroom. Drinks and food were provided.

One of the dealership’s biggest events happened in August, with the Fifth Annual HOGS 4 DOGS event at Silky’s Martini Bar in Dearborn. Held from 4-9 p.m., 100 percent of the proceeds benefitted a local animal shelter. Tickets were $25, with only 200 tickets sold, making for another exclusive event. A Harley simulator was on hand, along with door prizes, tin can and 50/50 raffle, and food and drink.

Adam Smith’s Texas Harley-Davidson (Bedford, Texas) touted its stature to customers by noting that it would receive nearly 100 bikes from the 2014 model lineup by the end of August. The dealership specifically gave customers insight on the new batwing fairing, designed to reduce head buffeting by delivering a smoother airflow with the pressure-equalizing duct on the front.

Bob Weaver Motorsports & Marine (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) held its 4th annual Retro Saturday Vintage Show and Poker Run. The event featured a poker run and bike show, with vintage pricing throughout the dealership.

Greeley Harley-Davidson and Wild West Motorsports Inc. (Greeley, Col.) made good on their reputation as events maestros in August. The dealership offered new H-D buyers a “Get Your Kicks With Free 66” promotion. Customers who bought a new Harley-Davidson in August received 66 free tanks of gas. On Bagger Demo Day, the first 25 guests to demo a new Harley-Davidson touring bike received a free $25 gas card. A Giant End of the Season Tent Party offered a free pancake breakfast, bikini bike wash and 25 percent off discontinued and end-of-season MotorClothes products.
