Hardy bids farewell after 45 years in the industry

Marshall Distributing sales rep to end career at Dealer Expo

Gordy Hardy’s list of industry friends and associates reaches deep. That happens after 45 years in the industry. So there will be plenty of well-wishers during Hardy’s final appearance at Dealer Expo.

Heading into retirement at age 68, Hardy spent the past eight years with Marshall Distributing and several years before that with Bell Industries.

“Gordy knows hundreds and hundreds of dealers. He’s taken yearly trips out West to go elk hunting, and he stops at every dealership along the way,” said Chuck Herman, national sales manager of Marshall Distributing. “He wanted to retire in January, but we talked him into staying on through February. He’ll work his last days at Dealer Expo, so it’ll be the proper setting for everyone to say goodbye and send him off the right way.”

Based in Minnesota, Hardy’s co-workers will most remember his approach to the business.

“He’s a salesman, just an old-school salesman. I wish there were more like him in the industry,” Herman said. “As a phone rep, his sales numbers are remarkable. He’s always among the top sales reps and he has a real delightful personality. And he knows the business from top to bottom. He still wrenches on stuff. He can talk the talk and walk the walk.”
