H-D’s Canadian distributor named a top employer

Deeley Harley-Davidson, the exclusive Canadian distributor for Harley-Davidson and Buell motorcycles and parts, was named one of Canada’s Top 100 Employers by Mediacorp for the third consecutive year.

Deeley Harley-Davidson, which has offices in Concord and Richmond, British Columbia, employs 149 staffers, 40 percent of which are women, according to an article in The Globe and Mail of Toronto. Company benefits include about 15 demo bikes that are available for staff rental, a clothing allowance for Harley-Davidson gear and a social committee called Riders at Play. Deeley Harley-Davidson also partnered with Rethink Breast Cancer last year, so portions of its Pink Label clothing line sales could go to the organization, which raises awareness about breast cancer.

To choose the top 100, Mediacorp editors reviewed recruitment histories of more than 75,000 Canadian employers before inviting 12,500 to apply. More than 2,700 companies started the application process, and the number of completed applications rose 15 percent, making this year’s field the most competitive. Each company was judged in eight key areas: physical workplace; work and social atmosphere; health, financial and family benefits; vacation and time off; communications, focused on how employers handle employee feedback; performance management; training and skills development; and community involvement. Organizations are then compared to others in their field. A distinguished academic advisory board, which consisted of members from universities across Canada, oversaw the selection criteria.
