Can-Am wins AMA ATVMX Manufacturer’s Cup

Can-Am has been announced as the winner of the AMA ATV Motocross Championship Series’ 2011 Manufacturer’s Cup.

Can-Am earned 509 points, edging Honda, which received 470 points. The Manufacturer’s Cup is awarded to the OEM that earns the most points, which are accumulated from each race, based on each manufacturer’s best overall finisher. Can-Am riders John Natalie, Chad Wienen and Chase Snapp helped Can-Am earn seven of the 11 victories throughout the season.

“On behalf of BRP and Can-Am, we are extremely proud of our racers and teams that contributed to winning this year’s Manufacturer’s Cup championship aboard the DS450. The entire Can-Am/Motorworks team has worked extremely hard, investing countless hours and making numerous sacrifices to help us achieve our common goal,” Can-Am race manager Jimmie O’Dell said. “Our team riders John Natalie and Chad Wienen were true inspirations this season by both overcoming adversity and have also taken training and preparation to another level. I also want to thank Can-Am X-Team rookie pro Chase Snapp and his team as they worked extremely hard this season and have contributed to Can-Am winning this manufacturer’s cup title.”

Honda earned second with four wins during the season. Josh Upperman, Nick DeNoble, Joe Byrd and Joel Hetrick each contributed best-finish points for the OEM.

Suzuki earned 380 points, coming in third in points, with riders Jeremy Lawson and Devin Heimes each contributing to the total. Yamaha’s Thomas Brown earned the manufacturer 339 points for a fourth-place finish. Hetrick earned Kawasaki 62 points in three rounds of racing, for the OEM’s last-place finish, before he moved to Honda.

Can-Am will be awarded the Manufacturer’s Cup at the AMA Pro Racing banquet in September.
