Oregon legislators look to loosen helmet laws

Legislators in Oregon are supporting a bill that would drop the helmet requirement for motorcyclists ages 21 and older.

Twenty state representatives have signed on to House Bill 3141, which is sponsored by Rep. Andy Olson (R-Albany), according to a report in the Albany Democrat-Herald. The bill has received bipartisan support, as well as the backing of many motorcyclists, Olson said. The current law requires helmets for riders and passengers of all ages.

Olson expects the House panel on transportation to hold a hearing on the bill this week.
