A surprise showing at EICMA

Ducati used the EICMA show stage yesterday to show off its newest model, a model that is part sport bike, part cruiser.

“Until now, no segment has ever captured these characteristics in just one bike,” Ducati Motor Holding General Manager Claudio Domenicali said in a press release.

Ducati believes it has captured both in its new Diavel, which will feature a number of technology platforms — ABS, Ducati Traction Control and Ducati Riding Modes — along with 162 hp.

“It is a naked because it is essential, light and agile,” Domenicali said of the Diavel, “a cruiser because it is imposing and also comfortable with a passenger; and a sports bike because it has a powerful heart, muscles and levels of performance that take your breath away.”

The new model will be available in two versions: The Diavel and the flagship Diavel Carbon, which will have a mix of aesthetic and performance components from carbon fiber bodywork to specially machined Marchesini wheels.

Before the Diavel’s unveiling, Ducati Motor Holding President Gabriele Del Torchio said he expects the company to finish the year with a 6 percent sales growth, according to the company press release.
