International ATV symposium debuts in China

The first-ever international ATV?Symposium debuted on June 11, at EICMA CHINA – The Motorcycle Show. It was hosted by the Motorcycle Industry Council (MIC) in partnership with the China Italy Motorcycle Exhibition Company (CIME), organizers of EICMA CHINA. Attendees included manufacturers, distributors, importers and other stakeholders interested in the global ATV industry.
The ATV Symposium’s panel discussion was facilitated by MIC President Tim Buche. Industry and regulatory experts from Australia, Canada, Europe and the United States addressed consumer issues, such as safety, vehicle utilization and market dynamics, as well as industry standards, technical issues and regulatory issues including mandatory standards, customer support, testing and certification.
Expert panel participants included:

  • Rhys Griffiths, motorcycle manager, Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI) – Australia;
  • Robert Ramsay, president, Canadian Off-Highway Vehicle Distributors Council (COHV);
  • Herry Kleyn Van Willigen, president, All Terrain Vehicle Industry European Association (ATVEA); and
  • Paul Vitrano, executive vice president and general counsel, Specialty Vehicle Institute of America (SVIA) and Recreational Off-Highway Vehicle Association (ROHVA) – United States.

    Yamaha adds new utility, sport ATVs for 2011

    Yamaha Motor Corp. has expanded its 2011 ATV line with a pair of new models, according to a release from the company. The additions are a new utility ATV, the Grizzly 450 4×4 EPS, and a new sport model, the Raptor 125.
    “The new Grizzly 450 EPS is a mid-level machine with top-of-the-line features that excels in trail riding and utility functions,” Mike Martinez, Yamaha’s general manager of ATV and side-by-side operations, said in the release. “The Raptor 125 is the first in its class from a major ATV manufacturer with true sport performance.”
    The Raptor 125 is the first 125-class sport ATV from a major manufacturer. It features a 124cc, two-valve, single overhead cam engine, five-speed manual transmission, electric start, hydraulic disk brakes and five-way preload adjustable suspension.
    According to Yamaha, the Grizzly 450 EPS combines features for the outdoor and recreational enthusiast: Electric Power Steering, Ultramatic automatic transmission with the centrifugal clutch system, On-Command 2WD, 4WD and 4WD diff-lock, and a new rear-sealed wet brake. It features a mid-level chassis with a new one-piece frame and independent rear suspension. Its engine is a 421cc, 4-stroke able to handle more than 250 pounds rack capacity and 1,322 pounds in towing. psb
