GPS-based tracking device debuts

BlackLine GPS recently introduced a GPS-based tracking device, dubbed the Harpoon, that allows for tracking and recovery of a stolen watercraft.
In the event a Harpoon-equipped PWC is stolen, the BlackLine Recovery Service works in conjunction with authorities to track your craft in real-time.
The system automatically detects an owner’s unique key fob when present, and disarms to allow for normal recreational use. Upon leaving the craft and removing the fob, the system activates once again. Should a craft be stolen, it can be tracked using a standard Web browser in as little as 20 seconds, according to the company. Friends and family also are able to track a loved one on an extended trip, or find their whereabouts in the event of an emergency, at no charge.
The system retails for $350. For more information visit www.blacklinegps.com.

Single day distance record set

Canadian Dale Vranckx recently set a world record for the longest single-day distance on a PWC by traveling 768 miles in 16 hours, 10 minutes. The St. Williams, Ontario-native averaged 56.7 mph, starting at 5:15 a.m. on June 19, and finishing at 9:25 p.m. the same day. His course was an 8-mile loop in Long Point Bay. Vranckx completed the loop 98 consecutive times to achieve the record, battling fog, rain and winds up to 20 mph.
The ride was an effort to raise awareness and funds for Your Life Counts, a youth suicide-prevention organization.
Vranckx’s successful record came aboard a Sea-Doo RXT iS 255. psb
