WyoTech-Daytona adds programs in powersports and marine

WyoTech-Daytona technical school has added two new programs to its curriculum, Advanced Marine and Off-Road Power, the school reported in a release.

For students who have completed WyoTech’s six-month core programs in Marine Technology or Motorcycle Technology, the new programs provide more specialized training in the marine and powersports areas. Students who enroll in these programs are eligible to test for Mercury Marine “Essentials” and Yamaha “Five Star Certification” programs, according to WyoTech. Each program lasts 12 weeks.

“This unique combination of training offered in these programs is not widely available at any other institution,” Roland Palot, WyoTech-Daytona President, said in the release. “In order to increase the marketability of our graduates with potential employers, we’ve put these programs together with the most current technology and information the marine and powersports experts have to offer.”

The Advanced Marine program introduces students to advanced installation and troubleshooting of recreational marine vessel support systems, the school said.

“According to industry leaders, a large percentage of the higher level marine technicians are baby boomers currently facing retirement,” said Dan Scudder, marine department chairman. “This is creating a large void in the industry. Our Advanced Marine program is designed to enable graduates starting out as entry-level technicians to quickly advance into these higher positions in order to fill that void.”

The Off-Road Power program focuses on ATVs, personal watercraft and snowmobiles. According to the school, students are introduced to information resources, sophisticated test equipment, manufacturer-approved diagnostics, and repair procedures for mechanical aspects and fuel and electrical related issues for ATVs, as well as all aspects of personal watercraft and snowmobile repair.
