AMA announces multi-million dollar endowments

The American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) has created three separate $1 million endowments for the AMA’s Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum, the association’s government relations activities and amateur racing programs.
AMA President and CEO Rob Dingman made the announcement Friday, Feb. 13, at a press conference preceding the opening of the annual Dealer Expo in Indianapolis.
AMA Board of Directors Chairman Stan Simpson said, “This year the AMA turns 85 years old, and our board felt it was strategically important to invest a significant sum into the AMA’s most important functions. Amateur racing is a cornerstone of the AMA, the Hall of Fame Museum honors and preserves the legacy of this great sport and pastime, and our government relations department protects the motorcycle lifestyle today, and ensures it’s long-term future.”
Dingman says the AMA created separate endowments of $1 million each for the museum, the government relations activities and the amateur racing programs.

KTM North America becomes sponsor for dual sport series

KTM is putting its name on the country’s premier schedule of dual-sport events, the AMA KTM National Dual Sport Trail Riding Series.
As part of the three-year relationship, at the end of each season KTM will award one rider in the series with one of the most popular bikes in the company’s lineup: a new KTM 530 EXC.
“KTM has been a pioneer in outfitting top-line off-road racing motorcycles with full street-legal equipment right from the factory,” said AMA Director of Business Development Jim Moore. “Likewise, events in the AMA KTM National Dual Sport Trail Riding Series combine miles of hard-core trail with flowing backroads and gorgeous two-track. KTM is the perfect partner for this series, and we’re looking forward to working with them to make these popular events even better.”
KTM North America President Jon-Erik Burleson added, “While KTM is known for building motorcycles that are ‘Ready to Race,’ we are also fully dedicated to the recreational rider. The AMA has been promoting this national series since 1987, and the events have demonstrated strong growth in both participation and number. Currently, for 2009, the schedule for the AMA KTM National Dual Sport Trail Riding Series includes 23 events. psb
