Harley-Davidson President and CEO to retire in 2009

After being with the company for 40 years, Harley-Davidson President and CEO Jim Ziemer told the board of directors he intends to retire next year, according a company press release.

The board of directors has formed a search committee to review internal and external candidates. Ziemer will stay in his position until a new CEO is in place.

Ziemer has spent his entire career with H-D, and Board Chairman Jeffrey Bleustein says he has contributed a lot to the company.

“All of us who have worked with Jim throughout the years have benefited from his leadership, his selfless commitment to the company and his contributions to making the brand one of the most admired and successful brands in the world. As an avid and lifelong motorcyclist, Jim also exemplifies the great legacy and spirit of Harley-Davidson.”
