PSB poll finds industry relying on sales/discounts to lure in holiday shoppers

Powersports Business is asking industry associates how they’re attracting additional holiday business.

It’s not too late to cast your vote. PSB readers can submit their response to the holiday poll on PSB’s home page, Powersportsbusiness.com.

This will be one of an ongoing series of questions that will be posted weekly where visitors can answer the poll and then see immediate results.

Preliminary results of “How do you plan to attract additional holiday business?” revealed that nearly half will have sales/discounts and almost 17 percent will spend more on advertising. Only about 6 percent don’t plan on doing anything additional, while roughly 11 percent will hold more events.

This year U.S. consumers plan to spend an average of $832.36 on holiday shopping, according to National Retail Federation’s (NRF) 2008 Holiday Consumer Intentions and Actions Survey, conducted by BIGresearch. The amount is up nearly 2 percent compared to last year. It’s the lowest increase in planned consumer spending since the survey began in 2002.
