Yamaha’s North American motorcycle, ATV sales decline in third quarter

Yamaha Motor Co. reported a drop in revenue in the third quarter due primarily to decreased sales of motorcycles, ATVs and marine products in North America.

Yamaha’s overall revenue fell nearly 4 percent compared to a year ago in its third quarter, which ended Sept. 30.

The company sold 117,000 new motorcycle units in North America in its first three quarters of 2008, which represents a 21 percent decrease from the year-ago period.

Yamaha’s sales of power products, which includes ATVs and side-by-sides, fell 24 percent compared to last year’s third quarter.
