Survey: PWC sales slip more than 40 percent

According to the story, penned by Statistical Surveys’ Aarn Rosen, August sales of all fiberglass boats declined by nearly 43 percent, including a 41 percent dip in the PWC market. The data was drawn from 27 key states.
“The August results exemplify the challenging economic environment the marine industry is confronting,” Rosen stated.

Coast Guard recognizes Sea-Doo

It’s been public for only a short time, but Sea-Doo’s new Intelligent Brake and Reverse (iBR) system has already gotten a nod from the U.S Coast Guard Office of Auxiliary and Boating Safety. The office recently recognized Sea-Doo manufacturer BRP with its Boating Safety Award for the company’s commitment to improving boating safety.
“The braking capability of this new design is not just an evolutionary improvement but a revolutionary improvement to the safety of these vessels,” stated Capt. Mark Rizzo, chief of the Coast Guard Office of Auxiliary and Boating Safety.
According to several industry insiders Powersports Business spoke with, the addition of the braking system comes with a certain degree of responsibility for the manufacturer. Apparently, once it is demonstrated that a craft could be made safer with such an addition, failing to provide the braking system on future models could open up the company to some degree of liability.
