Tucker Rocky Recalls Off-Road Bike Clamp Kits

In cooperation with the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Tucker Rocky voluntarily recalled about 12,000 Pro Taper Camp Kits for off-road motorcycles, according to the CPSC.
Some of the bolts included in the clamp kits or sold separately can break under extreme force if not installed correctly. It can cause the handlebars to separate posing a risk of serious injury to the rider. There have been seven reports of bolts breaking but no injuries reported.
Tucker Rocky officials noted problems have only occurred when the customer installed the bolts incorrectly, with an overtorqued condition (above the recommended 14 feet pounds), and then crash in a way to cause a sideways sheer load on the bolts.
The kits were sold at motorcycle dealerships nationwide from October 2007-March 2008. They ranged in price from $5 for the Replacement Bolt Kit to $440 for the Complete Triple Clamp Kit.
Tucker Rocky has made replacement bolt kits so customers can order the correct amount of bolts for their application. psb
