BRP recalls snowmobiles due to explosion hazard

Bombardier Recreational Products recalled about 400 Ski-Doo snowmobiles because in extreme cold and dry weather conditions an explosion can occur, the Consumer Protection Safety Commission reported.

The explosions are a result of sparking in the fuel tank when it’s partially filled with gasoline at a low vapor pressure and the engine is left idling. There have been four reports of explosions, one of which involved burn injuries.

Models include the 2005 Expedition TUV 600 H.O. SDI in black or seashore, 2007 Skandic SWT V-800 in yellow, 2008 Skandic SWT V-800 in yellow and black and the 2008 Skandic SUV 600 H.O. SDI in yellow and black. The model names can be found on the side panel. The snowmobiles were sold nationally from March 2004-March 2007 between $9,000 and $10,000.

BRP is sending direct notices to registered consumers, and they can contact any Ski-Doo dealer for a free repair.
