KTM, Indian company project to focus on small-displacement street bikes
KTM’s recent joint agreement with a major Indian manufacturer will not affect the European company’s North American market, a top company official told Powersports Business.
Hubert Trunkenpolz, director of sales and marketing for KTM Powersports AG, said the main thrust behind the agreement with Bajaj Auto is the development of a smaller displacement street bike for the European market. Such motorcycles will take on more significance with the introduction of a new European law allowing 125cc motorcycles to be ridden by people with automobile driving licenses.
Trunkenpolz, speaking with Powersports Business from a motorcycle show in Dubai, also said the deal will make Bajaj, the second largest manufacturer in India, the exclusive distributor for KTM in India and southeast Asia.
