JAMA reports production, export decreases

The Japanese Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA) has reported motorcycle production in January 2007 was down 4.2 percent (to 143,087 units) compared to the same month of the previous year.

Year-over-year production has been down for three consecutive months.

Honda production in January 2007 was 39,491, down from 43,992 in 2006. Suzuki production was 41,733, down from 43,181. Yamaha production units were 41,999, up slightly from 41,421. Kawasaki produced 19,848 units, down from 20,813.

JAMA reported that motorcycle exports in January 2007 were at 113,880 units, down 2,580 units (2.2 percent) compared to the same month of the previous year. Exports have been lower than the same month of the previous year for five consecutive months.

Honda exported 21,165 units in January 2007, down from 23,858 units in January 2006. Suzuki exported 43,590, up from 35,685. Yamaha exported 28,618, down from 34,750 units. Kawasaki exported 20,507 units, down from 22,167.
