The organization recently wrapped up the 22nd running of this international event with renewed support from the city of Lake Havasu. In fact, LHC Mayor Robert Whelan proclaimed the week of Oct. 5-12, 2003, as “IJSBA World Finals Week” in Havasu, and issued a special proclamation recognizing the IJSBA’s contributions to the “betterment” of Lake Havasu City.
TEAM ENDURANCE CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Havasu 300 Team Endurance National Championship will be held in Lake Havasu City, Ariz, on Dec. 6, 2003, according to an announcement by Bullett Racing .
Based at the Crazy Horse Campgrounds , the same site as the IJSBA World Finals, the event allows riders to team up to complete 300 miles worth of laps on the Colorado River.
Runabout teams consist of two racers, while stand-up teams are comprised of three riders.
TICKET SALES UP, ROOM STAYS DOWN
Ticket sales for the recent IJSBA World Finals were up, but apparently not all those race goers stayed in hotels. According to Dick Elewaut , president of the Lake Havasu City Hotel/Motel Association , business was down roughly 25% over the same period last year.
Informal polls of race fans indicate that many were discouraged with the increase in hotel room rates during the finals week, opting instead for house and condo.
