Alpha to expand with Hyosung

AlphaSports Motors, LLC, Augusta, Ga., says it is planning to add a 650cc V-twin motorcycle obtained from Hyosung Motors & Machinery, Inc. of South Korea next year.
The 650 cruiser is powered by a liquid-cooled 75-degree DOHC V-twin and features two-into-one exhaust, an inverted fork, cast wheels, and triple disc brakes. With aggressive seating position and plenty of shine, styling resembles that of a number of modern power cruisers.
Abby Elnockrashy, AlphaSports’ new executive vice president, told Powersports Business that the bike, coded as a GV650, “is probably one of the most important projects we have going on right now.” Elnockrashy says AlphaSports has a planned release date for the bike, but he declined to share it, promising only that it is being positioned as a 2004 model. He declined to offer a price, as well.
“I can say that it is being planned for the U.S., and that the manufacturer is allowing us input on how they will come in, in terms of product modifications and so forth,” he said.
Another bike that may be an eventual addition to the AlphaSports line-up is a naked sport-standard named the GT650. Resembling Suzuki’s SV650 — Hyosung started a technical tie-up with the Suzuki Motor Corp of Japan in 1979 — it features a 90-degree 647cc water-cooled eight-valve DOHC powerplant, a two-in-one exhaust system, upside-down fork, double pipe frame and meets Euro-2 standards.
AlphaSports previously revealed a naked sport-standard motorcycle, the GT250, in Indianapolis in February. The 249cc 75-degree air-cooled twin has yet to be delivered to dealers, but Elnockrashy says the first shipment is underway and should arrive in the next month.
Hyosung Motors & Machinery Inc. was founded in 1978 as a motorcycle manufacturer. With an annual production capacity of 200,000 motorcycles, Hyosung sells to domestic and foreign markets. It is South Korea’s largest exporter of motorcycles, moving product to more than 60 countries, and takes up some 40% of the domestic market. The company also specializes in the production of automotive parts and components.
