X-Games go prime time

The snocross competition will go prime time at the ESPN Winter X Games in January. The races are scheduled during the evening hours on Jan. 24 and 25, and the snocross qualifying rounds are set for 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Mountain Time (MT) Jan. 24. The semifinals, last-chance qualifier and final are scheduled to run from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. MT on Jan. 25. Hillcross will run during the day on Jan. 27.
The 2004 Winter X Games marks the first time the network will televise competitions live. Events will be featured on ESPN and ABC. SportsCenter also will report live from the X Games on Jan. 26-27, and will contain live coverage of events.

Snowmobile safety week set
International Snowmobile Safety Week is scheduled for Jan. 11-17, 2004. During this week snowmobile clubs and associations are encouraged to sponsor safety related events to draw special attention to safe snowmobile behavior during that week. Materials promoting the event, including posters, radio PSAs and a safety video, are available from the International Snowmobile Manufacturers Association.

Erickson joins Snow Group
The snowmobile magazine group at Ehlert Publishing has hired Tim Erickson as a senior editor with the snowmobile titles. Most recently, Erickson was in the public relations department of Polaris Industries. Erickson worked as an associate editor in Ehlert’s snowmobile group from 1997 to 2000. He’ll be responsible for product testing.

Magazine changes ownership
Snowmobile Magazine Scandinavia, based in Skellefteaa, Sweden, has been purchased by two employees and three creators of snowmobile Web site www.skoterleden.net. The magazine and the Web site will share ownership and content. Mikael Tarander, of the Web site, is the new editor of the magazine. Patrik Edstrom will continue as marketing manager and Mattias Lindstrom will remain as production manager.

ISMA Initiates New Campaign
The International Snowmobile Manufacturers’ Association (ISMA) of Haslett, Mich., has introduced a new public relations campaign called Safe Riders! Love This Planet, which will promote land stewardship, activism and environmentalism. The campaign will accompany the Safe Riders! You make snowmobiling safe safety program.
