Industry trends contributing to this rise are demand for larger, more versatile ATVs and small tractors with capabilities to handle large or tough mowing conditions.
Cycle Country, quoting the Outdoor Power Equipment Institute (OPEI), stated that record levels of home mortgage refinancing and tax cuts helped the demand and provided the cash to purchase outdoor power equipment over the past year. Cycle Country stated that OPEI reported a 5% increase in outdoor power equipment such as lawnmowers, garden tractors, utility vehicles and other related products during model year 2003, with total shipments at 8,103,217 units.
