Retail Sales Report January 20, 2003

November ATV sales continue decline
ATV sales continued their late season slump in 2002, declining 5.5% in November, according to retail sales figures compiled by the Motorcycle Industry Council (MIC). It was the second consecutive month of decline and third in the last four months. In November, retail sales of ATVs were 64,503 units, down from the 68,250 units sold in November 2001.
For the first 11 months of 2002, ATV sales totaled 671,291, up from 637,787 for the first 11 months of 2001. August ATV sales were off 5.6%, but sales rebounded in September, jumping 15.7% from September 2001. Then, October sales were off 10.4% from October 2001.
Total motorcycle sales, including scooter sales, declined 0.5% in November, compared to November 2001. Total YTD motorcycle sales were 790,908, up from 719, 266 in 2001.
